Alliance Wavebreakers!

Dear All

As you may know, Alliance ASC are launching a new learn to swim programme this autumn: the ‘Alliance Wavebreakers’. The programme is aimed at children from P1+, and will be bringing children through from Swim Ireland Level 1 (new beginners) up to Level 6 (the point at which swimmers are able to enter the club proper).

One aim of the Wavebreakers programme will be to ensure a flow of young swimmers into the club, hopefully helping us to grow and develop. It will also allow us scope to support our older swimmers in gaining lifeguarding and swimming teaching/coaching skills.

The Saturday evening sessions for level 4-5 new entrants to the club will no longer be running, but the upper end of the Wavebreaker programme will serve a similar purpose.

The Wavebreaker lessons will run on Friday evenings at the BRA pool on the Cliftonville Road. The first term will begin on 15th September, and will run through to early December. In the first instance, we will have a relatively limited capacity and so our initial plan is to offer places to the children of families who are already associated with the club and those who took part in our pilot in June. Thereafter, we will open to friends and others.

The lessons for Level 1, 2 and 3 swimmers will run for 30 minutes, with a teaching ratio of roughly 3:1 or better to ensure that the young swimmers gain water confidence and basic aquatic skills as quickly as possible. They will begin at 1745, 1815 and 1845. Lessons for Level 4, 5 and 6 swimmers will run for 45 minutes, beginning at 1745 and 1830.

The fees for each ten-week cycle of lessons will be £60, with discounts available should a child have a sibling in the Wavebreakers or the club, and/or be entitled to free school meals.

Please let me know if you would be interested on behalf of one or more of your own children. You can do this either by replying directly to this message, or by completing the online form on the Wavebreakers website (see below – see also the link to wave breakers Facebook page). You are also very welcome to forward these basic details to friends and family. We will be in touch with those who are interested to discuss the swimmer’s experience and competence, and then the first lesson will include an assessment to ensure each child is allocated to an appropriate group. We will also try to accommodate any preferences you may have as to time slot as far as possible.

With best wishes
