A dedicated team of volunteers provide the coaching at Alliance. The coaches are all screened through Access NI and generally have or are working towards a Level 1 or Level 2 Teaching or Coaching Aquatics qualification plus have completed a Safeguarding Children in Sport course.
HEAD COACH: Robbie Dougan
Robbie is a qualified and licensed Level 2 Senior Coach. He is performance driven and dedicated to assisting our young athletes achieve their individual and collective goals.
Robbie is taking responsibility for the overall coaching programme for the club to ensure consistency in core techniques throughout the club.
Our swimmers are split into two squads. Swimmers at different levels within these squads follow different programmes.
We also encourage individual swimmers to compete in Open Galas. We will be entering swimmers and teams in these events during the 2015-16 season. Up to date information on dates for open competitions is at http://www.swimulster.net/Competitions/Competition-Calendar-2015-2016.aspx
Any potential new members interested in joining this squad should apply to the Club Secretary and an assessment will be arranged with the club coaches. If our coaches assess that interested swimmers are not at a level to benefit from training at this level, we will be happy to discuss options for progressing their swimming, including doing some sessions with our younger squads.
All 11 year olds and under who are eligible for Aquasprint galas are in this squad. This squad’s training is supervised by Kirsten Scott and most sessions are conducted in the same pool sessions as the senior swimmers. The aims of this squad are to improve swimming skills and technique, prepare swimmers for Aquasprint and PTL galas, and to develop the skills and training disciplines to move on to train effectively with the senior squad.
All of our younger swimmers are encouraged to attend sessions which run in both the Grove & Ballysillan pools and which focuses very much on swimming technique and race skills. Stronger swimmers in this age group also train on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Specific technical sessions are also conducted with groups of younger swimmers on Monday nights although these are by arrangement with coaches.
The squad caters for a wide range of abilities – we encourage applications from swimmers aged 6 and up who have basic skills including confidence in the water and the ability to float. Please discuss any potential swimmers in this age range with our coaches and submit a form to the Club Secretary.
Alliance is run by a voluntary Management Committee. The Committee meets once per month and the role is primarily to ensure governance and make decisions about the direction and activities within the club.
Current Committee: Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary. We also fulfil other committee roles including Club Children’s Officers and 3 remaining supporting roles.
Volunteers are the cornerstone of the Club. They are represented as coaches and Committee members but also essential at each gala and social occasion. From tea making to timekeeping and everything in between becoming involved is a brilliant way of being with your children but not being with them. We only require that you can help out on at least 3 occasions eg poolside parent etc. If you can spare some time please contact the Club Secretary below.
The Club takes the safeguarding of children very seriously and has 3 Club Children’s Officers (CCO’s). The CCO is the link between the children and adults in Alliance ASC and advises the Committee on Child Welfare issues. The current CCO’s are Orla McCormick and Robert Craig with a third parent as support. They can be contacted by email cco@alliance or are around at most sessions.
While the CCO’s represent the children in the Club all issues are referred to the Designated Officer who is responsible for reporting any concerns or disclosures to the statutory authorities. The Designated Officer is Orla McCormick as an offical Committee member..
